Social media reels
Vertical, fast and readable at phone size.
A reel is watched at arm’s length, often with the sound off, usually for less than ten seconds before the decision to stay or scroll. The design constraints follow from that: portrait, large type, one idea at a time.
The trap is treating a reel like a compressed television ad. It is closer to a sequence of posters. Each slide has to work as a still, because that is how it will be seen by anyone who pauses.
The shape of the video
Slide 1 — the hook
One line, readable in a single glance, that makes a promise or asks a question. No logo, no intro animation longer than half a second.
Slides 2–5 — the points
One point per slide, six to eight words of text, a visual that supports it. Keep the same layout so the eye does not have to re-learn the frame.
Slide 6 — the close
A short summary line and a reason to follow or save. A loop back to the hook works well if the last line sets up the first.
Why it works
Portrait is chosen when the project starts, so the composition is designed for the phone rather than cropped into it.
Text sizes scale with the frame, so a caption that reads on the canvas still reads on a 6-inch screen.
